TV Globes in the Arms of 'Angels' Another awards show, another massive trophy haul for HBO.The premium cable network's miniseries "Angels in America" turned some of its glowing reviews and multitude of nominations into hardware Sunday (Jan. 25) at the 61st annual Golden Globes. The six-hour opus, based on Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, won five awards -- one for each category in which it was nominated. It won for best miniseries or TV movie and in four acting categories -- best actor (Al Pacino) and actress (Meryl Streep) in a miniseries or TV movie, and best supporting actor (Jeffrey Wright) and actress (Mary-Louise Parker) in any television work.Parker's win was perhaps the biggest surprise of the four, as she was up against last year's winner, "Sex and the City's" Kim Cattrall, her "SATC" co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, and four-time nominee Megan Mullally of "Will & Grace."This being the Golden Globes, there were a few curveballs thrown in among the winners. The British series "The Office," a highly praised but little-seen series which airs on BBC America in this country, won for best comedy series, and its co-creator and star, Ricky Gervais, beat out the likes of previous Globe and Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub ("Monk") and Matt LeBlanc ("Friends").The awards didn't give much of a send-off to two much-loved series that are ending this year. "Friends" lost out on its only nomination, for actor Matt LeBlanc, while "Sex and the City" took home only one Globe, for best actress Sarah Jessica Parker. It was also a tough night for the broadcast networks, which won only two of the 11 TV awards. FOX's "24" took the trophy for best drama series, and Anthony LaPaglia of CBS' "Without a Trace" won for best actor in a drama. HBO won seven and BBC America two.
